The North Revisited is a year-long project which builds on the iconic work of photojournalist John Bulmer FRPS, whose evocative images of the north of England taken in the 1960s and 70s for The Sunday Times Magazine remain a cornerstone of British documentary photography. Hill’s year-long commission seeks to revisit communities visited by Bulmer, and many other communities, to capture the evolving identity of The North. This will create a national archive of several thousand photographs and, as a homage to Bulmer’s pioneering colour work, Hill will be shooting The North Revisited on Phoenix 200, a new colour film designed and manufactured in the north of England by Harman Technology. Hill & Bulmer will be in conversation at the festival 1.30pm Saturday 12 April.
